The History of Mineralienhotel

Nestled in the heart of South Tyrol, the Mineralienhotel carries a story that began over four decades ago—one built from vision, craftsmanship, and family spirit. What started as the Natznerhof in 1978 has evolved, step by step, into a place where nature, design, and hospitality come together in perfect harmony. Every stone, every detail, and every renovation reflects the Klement family’s dedication to creating a living house that grows with time.

Origins and Family Roots (1978)

In 1978, after three and a half years of construction—largely completed by the family itself—the Natznerhof opened its doors under the guidance of Anton Klement. This marked the beginning of what would later become the Mineralienhotel: a family-run retreat deeply rooted in South Tyrol’s landscape and hospitality traditions, carrying forward the legacy of the Elternhaus Klementhof.

A New Oasis of Relaxation (1996)

By 1996, the first major extension followed: a heated indoor swimming pool was added, complemented by a redesigned park area featuring natural stones and sunny terraces. Together, they created a peaceful oasis that soon became a hallmark of the hotel.

A Generational Shift (1999)

In 1999, the next Klement generation took the helm. A complete renovation marked a new era—one of renewal, warmth, and craftsmanship. The design concept placed emphasis on natural materials, family values, and architectural harmony, setting the tone for everything that followed.

Culinary Expansion and Style Fusion (2002)

By 2002, the hotel’s growing popularity made it necessary to expand. The dining area was enlarged and enhanced with a southern-style winter garden, reflecting a fusion of alpine and Mediterranean influences—a blend that remains one of the Mineralienhotel’s most distinctive features today.

Minerals and Wellness (2006)

In 2006, the wellness area took on a new dimension, centered on stones and natural harmony. Serpentine, quartz, and amethyst were carefully integrated into the design, enriching the atmosphere with calm and energy. The newly created smoking lounge became a bridge between garden and interior, embracing guests in a world of light and minerals

Energy-Conscious Modernization (2007–2009)

Between 2007 and 2009, the Mineralienhotel embraced a future-oriented approach. Solar panels, photovoltaic systems, and a pellet heating system were installed—long before sustainability became a trend. A new underground parking garage was built, and the rooms were redesigned in bright, mineral-inspired tones. The lobby was reimagined as a radiant welcome area—introducing guests to the world of stone, warmth, and light from the very first step.

Integration and Detail Work
(2013–2014)

Between 2013 and 2014, several thoughtful refinements took place. The buffet and dining areas were redesigned to enhance flow and functionality. In 2014, the swimming pool was expanded, and subtle design improvements were made throughout the building—small but meaningful steps in the ongoing evolution of the house.

A New Private Residence (2017)

In 2017, the Klement family completed a private residence adjacent to the hotel. This addition symbolized the deep connection between family and hospitality—where living and working, tradition and innovation, coexist in harmony. The new home provided space for family life while reinforcing the family’s presence at the heart of the hotel.

Modernization and Room Upgrades (2018)

In 2018, attention turned to the rooms. Guest bathrooms were modernized with new rain showers and refined materials. Two existing rooms were merged into a spacious Premium Room, offering more comfort — an example of the family’s ongoing commitment to blending modern design with alpine coziness

A Redesign Inspired by Minerals (2019)

2019 marked a defining milestone in the Mineralienhotel’s identity: the creation of the Mineral Museum. The hotel entrance and lobby were completely redesigned, highlighted by the installation of the imposing Brazilian rock crystal, which became an instant centerpiece and popular photo spot. The bar was transformed into a welcoming island concept, encouraging conversation and connection—the perfect reflection of the Mineralienhotel’s spirit.

The Rock Crystal Cave and Museum Design (2020)

In 2020, the Mineral Museum was completed in full, crowned by the creation of the enchanting Rock Crystal Cave—a mesmerizing walk-through installation that immerses guests in the beauty and energy of minerals. The museum became not just an exhibition, but a story in stone—telling the tale of nature, time, and the Klement family’s lifelong passion for minerals.

Natural Comfort and Renewal (2021)

In 2021, the focus returned to the guest rooms. New wooden floors replaced carpeting, bringing warmth, natural fragrance, and a sense of groundedness into each space. The materials were chosen with care to reflect both alpine tradition and contemporary design.

A Continuation of Quality (2022)

By 2022, the modernization continued with the renewal of additional bathrooms, ensuring consistent comfort throughout the house. Each renovation—small or large—reflects the Klement family’s ongoing pursuit of excellence, detail, and guest wellbeing.

A Modern Facade for a Timeless House (2025)

In 2025, the hotel embarks on another transformative chapter: the modernization of the main building’s exterior façade. The design introduces a more contemporary architectural language while maintaining the Mineralienhotel’s soul. The balconies on the north and south sides of the rooms will be enlarged, offering more space, light, and panoramic views—linking comfort and nature closer than ever before.

Looking Ahead (2026)

In 2026, the Mineralienhotel will open a new chapter. The hotel is growing—rooms will become more spacious, new areas are being created, and fresh ideas are coming to life. What guests love most will remain, but everything will feel even more refined and special. Something new is on the horizon—stay tuned.
